“Make their ride a little smoother”  AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY needs a volunteer to serve as a transportation coordinator for their Road to Recovery Program. Duties include supervision  and scheduling of volunteer drivers who transport cancer patients to appointments. 

“Be part of a win-win solution”   HOME SHARE OF CENTRAL VERMONT  needs volunteers to interview program applicants. This work helps older people stay in their homes and helps other Vermonters find affordable housing.  Volunteer hours are very flexible. Some interviews take place in Barre, while others involve traveling to applicants’ homes.  Homeshare will provide training, support, encouragement and sometimes cookies.   

“It only takes a little time but the results  last a lifetime”  WASHINGTON COUNTY COURT (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as guardians-ad-litem, advocating for the rights of children in court hearings.

 “Keep the outdoors IN Vermont”   MONTPELIER PARKS DEPT needs volunteers for office assistance and to help with the Hubbard Park tower restoration project.

“ Home, heart, and love…where would YOU be without them?”  GOOD SAMARITAN HAVEN (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as overnight monitors for the shelter, checking in guests, talking with guests etc.

“To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you just may be the world”   HEATON WOODS (MONTPELIER) needs volunteers to be friendly visitors, and read to visually impaired residents.

“Help small business grow and take root”   SCORE (MONTPELIER)  needs a volunteer for office assistance, filing, copying, and answering the phone.

 “Unleash potential…tutor a child”   LOCAL SCHOOLS IN EACH COMMUNITY need reading mentors , who read to children and listen to children read, youth mentors, who share time and activities with kids

“Is reading your passion?...share it with a child”  EVERYBODY WINS , children’s literacy program needs volunteers as reading mentors. Lunchtime hours are possible.

“Make an elder smile…help advocate for the needs of seniors ”   COMMUNITY OF VERMONT ELDERS (BERLIN) needs someone to provide office assistance. Duties include answering the phone and entering data. Computer experience is helpful but not necessary.

“With your help they CAN get there from here!”   GREEN MOUNTAIN TRANSIT AGENCY (WASH. CTY) needs drivers to transport clients for medical appointments, shopping and activities. Training and mileage reimbursement are provided.

“They need what you know…help a new mom”   GOOD BEGINNINGS (WASH. CTY) needs visitors  to new Moms and babies in their homes, assisting families with information and support. Training is provided. Visitors are especially needed in the Waitsfield and Barre areas..

“ Let your light shine and brighten up a life”  MAYO HEALTHCARE INC ( NORTHFIELD) needs volunteer readers, and friendly visitors. Volunteers who have a musical talent to share are invited to entertain residents

“Books bring us together…meet your neighbors at the library”  BROWN PUBLIC LIBRARY (NORTHFIELD)needs library assistants to help shelve books, and assist with circulation, and special events. Hours are flexible

“Act up and educate”   SAVVY SENIORS  theater troupe needs volunteer actors and actresses to help perform skits at senior centers and other community meetings. All training is provided.

“Awarm meal brings a warm smile”  MONTPELIER HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM needs volunteer drivers for the Montpelier area. A small stipend is available. 

“Give a little…gain a lot”    CENTRAL VT. ADULT BASIC ED (WASH. CTY)  needs volunteer tutors to work with adults on basic literacy and preparation for the GED.  Training is provided.

“Make the stories of yesterday come alive for today and tomorrow”  VT HISTORICAL SOCIETY (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer greeters  to help visitors at the Montpelier museum. Volunteers greet visitors, introduce the exhibits, and staff the bookstore.

“ Taking a little time to listen can bring big rewards”   HEDDING METHODIST CHURCH (BARRE) needs a volunteer youth mentor to assist in the Teen Center, Thursday and/or Monday afternoons.

“Help visitors see why we Lovermont”  VT STATEHOUSE (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer gift shop assistants  and tour guides. Volunteers greet visitors and give helpful information.  All training provided.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE (MONTPELIER) needs an office assistant to help with filing and mailings at the Pavillion building.

“Your talents and time can make a difference”WOODRIDGE NURSING HOME (BARRE) needs readers  and friendly visitors. Musicians are also needed to provide entertainment for the residents.

“Promoting local healthy food keeps the local economy healthy” L.A.C.E.(local agricultural community exchange) (BARRE) needs a story time reader, and children’s activity leaders. Activities such as crafts, puppet shows or musical presentations are a few suggestions

“Stay healthy longer…volunteer” MONTPELIER SENIOR CENTER needs greeters to welcome visitors to the center , help with community meals and activities.  Also needed are musicians to play in the musical groups on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.

“ Keep art beating in the heart of Montpelier”  WOOD ART GALLERY(MONTPELIER) needs docents to meet and greet visitors to its Vermont College Campus art gallery. Hours are one afternoon from 12-4 Tuesday to Sunday.

“ The future is in the hands of our youth…impact the future by helping a child”ST MONICA’S SCHOOL (BARRE) needs tutors and mentors to help children with reading and/or in the classroom.

“A Little Village with a big heart…be part of a community” ADAMANT COOPERATIVE (CALAIS) needs a project director to help arrange and secure water at their Calais country store. Also needed is a volunteer to provide help with bookkeeping.

“Human nurture is needed to protect mother nature” NATURE CONSERVANCY(MONTPELIER)needs volunteers to work on field projects and office assistance at its Montpelier office.

“Spend time with a child today…invest in the future”  FAMILY CENTER OF WASHINGTON COUNTY (MONTPELIER) needs volunteers as child care aides to help children in its infant, toddler and preschool programs. Vermont College location.

“We all need affordable housing… help make it a reality”  CENTRAL VT COMMUNITY LAND TRUST (BARRE) needs a volunteer office assistant to answer the phone and other office duties at its Barre office.

“Good readers have success in school…help children fall in love with words” TURTLE ISLAND (MONTPELIER needs a library assistant volunteer to help organize the staff resource library. Also helpers needed to rock babies and help with afterschool programs.

“Keep our communities safe…support our crime stopper network” VERMONT PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT(WATERBURY) needs office assistance volunteers to help with filing, matching fingerprints, coding and other office duties. Waterbury state office complex location.

“Open their minds…help children enjoy reading”  CROSSETT BROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL(WATERBURY) needs a library assistant to help with organizing, shelving books, and checking books out for children.

“Be a friend… its fun to share  and make  a difference” WASHINGTON COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH needs people who would like to offer friendship to  individuals with mental illness, as part of the Gather Program. Volunteers help folks achieve full participation in the social life of their communities.

“Your talents plus time = smiles”  VERMONT STATE HOSPITAL(WATERBURY) needs activities helpers, especially in the evenings to present music, help with sing alongs, art activities, and a new bookcart program.

“Listening, helping and sharing…youth need caring adults”  YOUTH SERVICE BUREAU CITYSCAPE (BARRE) needs volunteers to help in a summer program for youth in grades 5-8 at Barre City Elementary and Middle School. Volunteers can share a hobby or sport , art, music or cooking activity.

“Lend your hand, your mind and your heart …fight Alzheimer’s Disease.”ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION (BARRE) needs an office assistant to answer the phone, make copies and enter data on the computer.

“Be a friendly visitor…give yourself and get a friend in return”   CENTRAL VERMONT COUNCIL ON AGING needs friendly visitors to visit elders in their homes, and help provide transportation to  appointments. Volunteers are needed throughout Washington County, with a special need in the Cabot area.

“Growing healthy food…your help makes you healthy too”  FOODWORKS AT TWO RIVERS CENTER needs volunteers to help distribute fresh produce to community progams. Volunteers pack and load boxes into vehicles, or drive and deliver produce to sites serving elders and youth.
